Statement of Primary Purpose

Provide workforce innovation instruction in brewing, distillation and fermentation techniques

Classification
Part-time, instructor, non-exempt

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Provide instruction for brewing, distillation and fermentation for continuing education related courses.
- Provide input to oversee and maintain brewing, distillation and fermentation facility to include equipment, inventory, malt, hops, and yeast.
- Areas of instruction specifically include craft beer brewing, distillation, fermentation, safety and sanitation, craft beverage microbiology, filtration & finishing, packaging, and maintenance.
- Maintain a professional attitude toward teaching and professional relationships.
- Establish and maintain the necessary industry recognized instructor / program certifications and accreditations such as the Institute of Brewing & Distilling (IBD) certifications.
- Revision / update course content as necessary.
- Prepare adequately for all classes assigned, and conduct all classes in a professional manner.
- Perform class room management with regard to providing an orderly, clean, safe working environment, while ensuring that all related equipment is maintained within budget constraints.
- Maintain accurate records and reports and submit these in a timely manner to the appropriate person.
- Partner with local manufacturers and area industries for better understanding of their applicable needs, then transferring those needs into the program curriculum and continuing education courses.
- Maintain the technical competencies necessary to the job function.
- Promote program recruitment and retention strategies.
- Ensure compliance and confidentiality with all policies and procedures of the College, NC Community College System, and applicable State and Federal agencies.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor Degree in Fermentation Sciences or equivalent

Knowledge and Skills
- Possess strong personal and professional integrity, good verbal and written communication skills, and a commitment to safety.
- Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite or similar products, database systems, College email and website, and other computer applications associated with the position.
- The faculty member must be able to effectively and successfully communicate their "industry perspective" of brewing and distillation

Physical Demands
The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and equipment.

Licensing Requirement
Industry certifications to include Institute of Brewing and Distilling (IBD) or comparable.

Working Conditions and Environment
Campus classroom environment, working evenings/weekends

Brewing, distillation, fermentation equipment, classroom equipment
